OpenAI confidentially files for IPO, the latest in a stream of possible AI mega-sales
Last week Anthropic confidentially filed for IPO; this week OpenAI followed suit by confidentially filing for its own highly anticipated market debut. The move comes on the heels of OpenAI’s massive $122 billion funding round that recently valued the company at $852 billion. While exact timing remains undecided, the public transition will ultimately give Wall Street a transparent look into the company's heavy infrastructure spending and long-term monetization strategies.
Trump signs executive order asking for access to new AI models before they launch
Last Tuesday, President Donald Trump signed an executive order requesting that AI companies voluntarily share advanced models with the government up to 30 days before their public release. The administration shifted from its previously hands-off regulatory approach due to national security and cybersecurity concerns surrounding highly advanced tools, such as Anthropic's new Mythos model. Major tech firms like OpenAI and Microsoft have expressed support for the measure, which explicitly states it does not authorize any mandatory government licensing or pre-clearance requirements.
OpenAI diverges from White House on AI safety rules
In an policy paper released last week, OpenAI proposed a mandatory AI regulatory framework that diverges from President Trump's recent executive order. While the White House order establishes a voluntary cybersecurity vetting process, OpenAI argues that evaluations should be mandatory and overseen by a civilian agency, specifically the Commerce Department's Center for AI Standards and Innovation (CAISI). OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is actively meeting with Washington officials to advocate for this civilian-led, structured benchmarking approach over a classified intelligence framework.

Tool of the Week: Ideogram 4.0
Ideogram just released version 4.0 of its text-to-image model as an open-weight release. The model brings native 2K resolution, transparent backgrounds, precise layout control, and sharper text rendering for logos and posters. Users can download the code from GitHub to run the model locally and fine-tune it. Ideogram 4.0 currently ranks first among all open-weight models on the DesignArena leaderboard, outperforming competitors like Midjourney v8. The company also announced that editable text and layers are in beta.
AI-generated image of the week
We tested out Ideogram 4.0 with one of its suggested prompts. We also tested out the layers and editable text option, which let us change the fonts of the text on this wall.

Prompt: A black and white photo collage wall art installation in a modern bedroom, featuring various images of landscapes, architecture, and motivational quotes like "WHAT IF IT ALL WORKS OUT?" and "IF NOT NOW, WHEN?". The room includes a bed with grey bedding, a wooden nightstand with an alarm clock, a potted plant in a white pot, and a striped rug on the floor. What we found
Researchers let AI models run a simulated society. Claude was the safest, with no crimes and 98% voter approval. Grok committed 180 crimes and went extinct within 4 days. Gemini had the most crimes - 683 in the full 15 days.
