OpenAI reveals GPT-5.6 Sol cybersecurity model, restricts early access

Late last week OpenAI announced GPT-5.6 Sol, the first model in the GPT-5.6 series, which has been described as its most capable tool yet for cybersecurity tasks like vulnerability research, similar to Anthropic’s Fable and Mythos models. At the request of the US government, initial access to the model will be strictly restricted to a small group of vetted partners while OpenAI works on a cyber executive order framework. The release introduces a new three-tier naming scheme, consisting of Sol, Terra, and Luna, with broader public availability expected within a few weeks.

US close to allowing Anthropic to restore Fable 5 model, Axios reports

According to a report by Axios, the Trump administration is close to allowing Anthropic to restore access to its widely available public AI model, Fable 5, as early as this coming week. Anthropic had abruptly disabled its advanced Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models following a June 12 government export control order issued over national security concerns. The government has already partially reversed this order by allowing the company to release the specialized Mythos 5 model to select “trusted” U.S. organizations.

Warner bill would create federally vetted list for secure, trustworthy AI agents

Senator Mark Warner (D-VA) has released a discussion draft of the Artificial Intelligence Access, Gatekeeper Exchange, and Nondiscriminatory Transfer (AI AGENT) Act, which aims to establish a federally vetted registry of secure and trustworthy AI agent providers. The bill empowers the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to certify independent bodies that will vet AI vendors for strict privacy, data security, and consumer-interest standards. Additionally, the legislation would require providers to link AI agents to verified human identities and mandate built-in controls for users to easily grant or revoke permissions.

What we found

A new study found that 11 words occur in 88.3% of generated stories, with little difference between models. These words include names (Elias, Mara, Elara), settings (lighthouses), and professions (clockmaker, librarian).
