OpenAI Shuts Down Sora Generative Video App, Disney Pulls Out of Investment and Licensing Deal

Last Tuesday, OpenAI announced that they would be completely shutting down their AI video app Sora, discontinuing both the Sora web platform and the Sora mobile app and even cutting off developer access to the Sora API. With this move comes the cancellation of OpenAI’s billion dollar licensing partnership with Disney, which would have allowed users to incorporate Disney characters into Sora.

OpenAI Cancels Spicy “Adult Mode” Chatbot as Crisis Deepens

It’s not just Sora that’s getting the axe from OpenAI. Just a few days after the Sora announcement, OpenAI announced that ChatGPT’s adult mode, which has yet to be released, will never see the light of day. The feature would have allowed verified users to produce their own erotic content. These moves come in the wake of a push for the company to focus on enterprise and coding, summed up by Fidji Simo, OpenAI CEO of applications: “We cannot miss this moment because we are distracted by side quests.”

Judge blocks Pentagon’s effort to ‘punish’ Anthropic by labeling it a supply chain risk

At the beginning of March we reported on the clash between the Pentagon and AI company Anthropic over whether the company would remove safeguards on its Claude family of models to enable the US government to use them for navigating autonomous weapons and conducting mass domestic surveillance. As you may recall, after Anthropic refused the Pentagon’s demands, the Trump administration responded by labelling the company a supply chain risk and announcing that all government ties with the company would be severed. Predictably, Anthropic sued the Trump administration over these moves, and just a few weeks later, we already have a ruling on the matter, with a federal judge blocking the government’s moves. Judge Rita Lin did not pull any punches in her ruling, writing, “Nothing in the governing statute supports the Orwellian notion that an American company may be branded a potential adversary and saboteur of the U.S. for expressing disagreement with the government.”

Tool of the Week: Rebel Audio

Rebel Audio is a new all-in-one podcasting platform designed to lower the barrier to entry for first-time creators, letting them record, edit, create cover art, generate transcripts, clip content for social media, and publish — all in one place. The platform recently raised $3.8 million plans to open to the public on May 30. AI plays a central role, powering features like show name generation, transcription, translation, dubbing, and voice cloning for ad reads, with built-in guardrails to address concerns around deepfakes and content quality.

Each man is wearing a matching black suits and holding a large rectangular colorful business promotion sign in front of him, like people hired to attract attention for a sale. One sign clearly reads: “Last Chance to Save”. The other sign clearly reads: “Gen AI Fundamentals Course”. What we found

A Wall Street Journal article published this week traces the feud between OpenAI and Anthropic back ten years to a shared house on Delano Avenue in San Francisco. At the time, the home was shared by Anthropic’s future co-founders: CEO Dario Amodei and his sister, Daniela Amodei.
