Microsoft taps Anthropic for Copilot Cowork in push for AI agents
The agentic AI tool Claude Cowork is coming to Microsoft 365 Copilot in the form of Copilot Cowork, Microsoft announced on Monday. According to the company, Copilot Cowork combines the ability of Claude Cowork to carry out complex tasks autonomously with the enterprise security features of Microsoft 365 Copilot, safeguarding user data and restricting the information that the tool has access to. Copilot Cowork will be rolled out to early-access M365 Copilot users over the coming weeks.
OpenAI’s new GPT-5.4 model is a big step toward autonomous agents
While we’re on the subject of autonomous agents, last week OpenAI rolled out their latest LLM, GPT-5.4, the first OpenAI model that incorporates computer use capabilities, which allow the model to operate a user’s computer to perform various tasks. According to OpenAI, the model outputs are 33 percent less likely to false compared to GPT-5.2. The full version of the model is available via the OpenAI API, while paid ChatGPT users can now toggle between the base model GPT-5.3 Instant and the reasoning model GPT-5.4 Thinking.
Anthropic sues Trump administration in AI dispute with Pentagon
Last week we reported on a series of stories involving AI company Anthropic and the Pentagon: first, the Pentagon demanded that Anthropic remove certain guardrails from their Claude family of models; second, Anthropic refused this demand; and third, as a result, the Trump administration declared Anthropic a supply chain risk to national security. Now Anthropic is pushing back, suing the Trump administration for an “unlawful campaign of retaliation,” claiming that its “reputation and core First Amendment freedoms are under attack.” This news comes alongside a report that the Trump administration is preparing an executive order instructing the federal government to sever ties with Anthropic models in all of its operations.

AI-generated image of the week
Can Nano Banana restore an old photo? We’ve tested this for nearly as long as we’ve been teaching generative AI tools. This week, Professor Snider decided to test it out with an old photo of his dad. Here are the results:

Prompt: Restore this image to high-fidelity clarity. Remove all scratches, dust, and fold marks, and repair any torn edges. Neutralize any fading to a natural black-and-white (or realistic color) balance. Enhance the sharpness and resolution of the entire scene, but strictly preserve the original facial features, expressions, and identities of the people in the photo without altering their likeness. What we found
