'Vibe coding' named word of the year by Collins Dictionary
The phrase “vibe coding,” not technically a word, nonetheless was deemed Collins Dictionary’s word of the year, beating out “coolcation” and “broligarchy,” among other words. Originally coined by AI researcher Andrej Karpathy in an X post, “vibe coding” is now a staple in the generative AI lexicon, referring to the process of dialoguing with a large language model in natural language to generate computer code in a way that allows one to “forget that the code even exists.” This victory is somewhat of a surprise, given that dictionary.com awarded their word of the year award to “67,” much to the chagrin of parents and teachers everywhere.
Stability AI’s legal win over Getty leaves copyright law in limbo
Stability AI, the company behind AI image generation tool Stable Diffusion, scored a victory in a UK lawsuit brought against it by Getty Images, which was suing for copyright infringement, as Stability AI used certain images owned by Getty to train their AI models. Stability AI was cleared of the claim that they “store or reproduce” copyrighted images, but the judge “did find in Getty’s favor that Stability had infringed its trademark by creating images that feature its watermarks.”
You can now interrupt ChatGPT as it learns to take feedback on the fly
Have you ever fed a prompt to ChatGPT only to find that you forgot to include some important detail or relevant background information? This is particularly problematic if you’re working with Deep Research, where ChatGPT takes its sweet time to produce its answer. Now, this is no longer a problem for reasoning-intensive tasks, as a new “Update” button appears in a sidebar that allows users to update their prompts mid-response without having to start over, a welcome feature that makes ChatGPT more responsive in real time.
TripAdvisor and Peloton are ChatGPT's first built-in apps — Apple and Google should be worried
ChatGPT is starting to integrate external apps directly into its platform, starting with TripAdvisor and Peloton. Now users can directly address either TripAdvisor or Peloton in a conversation, which creates a connection to the corresponding app, which in turn is used to generate a response to the user. For instance, after asking TripAdvisor to help us plan a short overnight trip to Omaha in a few weekends, we received a response with an embedded TripAdvisor map containing pins for all of the recommended hotel options.
Amazon Sues Perplexity As AI Browser War Escalates
Perplexity’s AI browser Comet, capable of making Amazon purchases on behalf of users, has caught the ire of the online retailer, as Amazon has followed up an initial cease and desist letter with a lawsuit against the use of the agentic browser on its site. "Perplexity is not allowed to go where it has been expressly told it cannot; that Perplexity’s trespass involves code rather than a lockpick makes it no less unlawful." The outcome of this lawsuit may be significant for the future of AI browsers, which can autonomously perform tasks on the web for users (posing a risk for ad revenue).

Since we tested out Perplexity above, we decided to see how well it performed at making images as well. Perplexity uses a variety of models for creating images, and it said that Seedream 4.0 was used for this one.
