AI Video Hits Its Breakout Moment
The unofficial judge of a new generative AI video tool is how well it can produce a video of Will Smith eating spaghetti (we don’t decide these things, we just report them). Two years ago, the results went viral for how laughable they were. No one is laughing now.
Kling AI’s week of updates
Kling AI's new VIDEO 2.6 model creates hyper-realistic videos with realistic movement and native audio in 1080p at 30 frames per second. Gone are the silent, glitchy videos. Gen AI video is now a valuable tool, generating visuals, natural voiceovers, matching sound effects, and ambient atmosphere in a single pass.
This new model was announced as part of Kling Omni Launch Week, five days of updates to Kling’s video offerings. Other notable updates included a realistic AI Avatar feature to make AI creators and an Element Library for building consistent elements with easy access for video generation.

Runway’s release
This comes just after the OG AI video company, Runway, launched its latest model.
Runway Gen-4.5 was launched just two years after Runways Gen-1, and it became the world's top-rated video model. Veo 3 is second, followed by Kling 2.5. Runway says its latest model "produces cinematic and highly realistic outputs while providing limitless creative freedom and precise control over every aspect of generation." We don’t have access to the new model yet, but here’s an example below.
What’s next for AI video
Kling’s and Runway’s new models were not the only recent AI video updates. We had recent updates from OpenAI’s Sora and from Google Gemini’s Veo. Both of those continue to create viral moments.
We’re already seeing AI videos in commercials, movies and Netflix shows. As these models continue to advance, this will be more and more mainstream. What’s most interesting to me is seeing the workflows being used to create cinematic video with AI. It’s not just a simple prompt, but rather a series of tools being used at each step of the process.
We’ll share more examples of AI video in our HOLID-AI update on Dec. 12. We hope to see you then!
